We had a nice vacation in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Our host Andrew was a super nice guy, who arranged to give us access to his Bambi Airstream RV the night before we were supposed to get it. We were thrilled because we thought we’d be able to get on the road early the next day & gain more vacation time. Unfortunately, when we went to get the RV it was at a repair shop because the toilet was broken & damage had occurred to the canopy & entry door hinge. We were faced with bad choices: either wait for the toilet to be replaced the next day (if that was even possible) or try to make-do with a defective toilet. Put yourself in that position. We chose to take the defective toilet & other issues so we could get on the road the next day. Canceling would have ruined our vacation. So we conceded to go ahead with the deal & make the best of it. As it turns out, we couldn’t use the toilet or the canopy & had to jerry-rig the screen door due to the accident that damaged the hinge on the entry door.On top of that, the Rv wasn’t ready with the bedding & although there were a lot of amenities included, we had to expend time & energy & feel stress on the eve of our vacation.Additionally, we were charged for an absurd dump waste tank fee of $100. We dumped our own waste tank, so we feel like that was a junk fee. The “prep fee” of $100 was supposedly towels and linens, which weren’t there when we picked up the RV. We drove to the hosts house & got them.Although we agreed to take the RV “as was”, we were really over a barrel. We had little choice, or at least, few good choices. We enjoyed our vacation, except for the things I’ve mentioned. For what we paid for all of this, we could’ve stayed in a $350/night hotel and been able to use the toilet and shower. In the end, we probably won’t use this service again. Our issues might have been mitigated if the host had deducted some of our costs, but that wasn’t offered. I hate leaving a bad review, but he should’ve considered the rental from our point of view. And I might add, outdoorsy is an overly complicated operation. Folks, provide the customer with a complete soup to nuts, all inclusive package without 20 different, complicated packages, etc. rent the RV, all inclusive, with everything important covered. Don’t put doubt and confusion into the plans of people who are going on vacation.
