I have Thule, Yakima, Kuat, etc. cross bars...Do those count?

Yep. If you have name brand cross bars, you are good to go. No problem at all.

How do I know whether my cross bars can carry the tent?

Google 'YOUR VEHICLE cross bar weight limit' Example: 'Kia Soul Crossbar Weight Limit' If the results say 140 pounds or more, you are good to go (HINT: All factory cross bars will likely exceed this limit)!
